This accent wall was my very first client project. My client had posted on a local moms facebook group that she was looking for someone to install an accent wall in her son’s room. My best friend was also in that facebook group, saw the post, and sent me a text asking if I wanted her to share my info…so I said yes! And while I had never installed an accent wall with a geometric pattern like the one she had in mind, I was honest with my client and told her that I was confident I could do it, and wouldn’t call it “done” until she was happy with the final product. Since then, I’ve completed several other projects in her home, she has referred me to her friends, and we’ve become friends ourselves!

She sent me photo inspiration, and I planned to replicate the design as closely as possible, while avoiding obstacles like outlets. I chose to use PVC lattice trim over traditional pine 1×2’s mainly because I was able to cut it using shears, which saves a ton of time and effort versus running back and forth to the miter saw.

I started by painting the wall Hale Navy from Benjamin Moore.

Then, I attached the lattice trim using my 18-gauge nail gun and 1 inch brad nails.

Luckily, the only angled cuts I needed to make with this pattern was 45 degrees, which was easily marked on the miter shears!

Then I started to most tedious task of this whole project…filling holes and caulking! Once everything was dried, and the wood filler was sanded smooth (you could also use spackle to fill the small holes), I painted the trim Hale Navy for a monochromatic look! I also put the outlet covers back on…not pictured!

My client was not only happy with the outcome, she hired me to design and install another geometric accent wall in her guest room! That project can be found here.
