Updating this linen closet was one of the first few DIY projects I did without any help. I started by removing everything, including the old cleats that were holding up the shelves, and then patching the areas smooth with some joint compound.

After a quick sand, I then gave the sides of the closet a fresh coat of white paint, leaving the back because I would be applying wallpaper. I applied this navy and white geometric peel and stick wallpaper for the back wall, and used the old cleats as templates for new ones. I used door/window stop trim because that’s what we had on hand at the time, but a 1×2 or 1×3 would have worked too! I also used the old shelves as templates for new ones that I cut down from a sheet of melamine. Lastly, I purchased several white coordinating baskets from Bed, Bath, & Beyond and used a label maker to label them! Three years later, and the door latch has still yet to be installed, but I’m happy to have a clean, pretty, and organized linen closet! I think that makes me old…
